What Is Cold Laser Therapy?
A laser is basically a focused beam of light that emits photon energy. When the light is focused properly, all of the photons are traveling in the same direction and at the same wavelength; this is known as coherent light.
The word laser is an acronym for Light Amplification by Stimulation of Emission of Radiation, which accurately describes how the light is organized as it comes out of the optical diode. The word radiation in this context means it radiates or emits light (no harmful radiation is produced).
Cold Lasers (also known as Low Level Lasers) are different than the more publicized heat or hot lasers that are used in many surgical procedures to cut and cauterize tissue. Cold Laser do not have any thermal effect and are used to stimulate tissue rather than destroy tissue. These types of lasers have been in use for over 25 years and there has been no recorded side effects.
Recent medical research verifies Cold Laser Therapy can be a very effective solution for treating pain and healing injuries without dangerous drugs or surgeries. This new technology for Cold Laser Therapy (CLT) offers advanced treatment options for numerous musculoskeletal conditions. We use the Erchonia Laser, the first and only FDA approved therapeutic laser.
Some Conditions Treated
Arthritis Headaches Skin Lessions Burns/Bruises
Tendonitis Fatigue Sprains/Strains Chronic Pain
Neck Pain Back Pain
Knee Pain Fibromyalgia
Ankle Pain Sports Injuries
Tinnitus Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
Hip Pain Peripheral Neuropathy
Post - Operative Wounds & Pain
…... And more
Cold Laser Therapy (CLT) penetrates deeply into the body without any heat or tissue damage. Once delivered to the injured area, the light energy promotes the process of bio-stimulation of the cells. The positive effect of light bio-stimulation on human cells is similar to photosynthesis in plant cells whereby a chain of chemical reactions is set in motion causing cells to replicate. In human tissue the resulting photo-chemical reaction produces an increase in the cellular metabolism rate, causing an increase in the cells energy production, enzymatic reactions and endorphin release for faster pain relief.
Benefits to Patients
Relieves acute and chronic pains, increases the speed, quality and tensile strength of tissue repair, increases blood supply, stimulates immune function, stimulates nerve function, helps to generate new and healthy cells and tissues, promotes faster healing.
What to Expect During Treatment
The Cold Laser light is applied to the injured area for a specific time, usually 6-8 minutes per treatment. The patient will not experience any pain during the treatment. You may not fell anything, while some patients experience a feeling of energy or a slight warming stimulating effect. The thinner the tissue treated, the more likely you will feel anything. The treatment frequency is usually 3-5 times per week for about 10 – 20 treatment sessions depending on the injury. Most patients experience moderate pain relieve after about 10 treatments. Of course, the longer you have had the problem, the longer it may take see relief. When chiropractic treatment and other therapies are included, recovery time can be accelerated.
Physiological Effects of Cold Laser Therapy:
Cold Laser Therapy increases cellular metabolism, improves blood and lymph circulation, provides anti-inflammatory and pain relief, and stimulates and accelerates wound healing.
For best results, combine Cold Laser Therapy with Joint mobolization/ manipulation and specific nutrients per your condition to optimize healing.
